Jack Johnson: first black world heavyweight boxing champion (1908). James Jeffries unretired to prove white boxers were better than black boxers. But Johnson knocked out Jeffries in the 15th round. That match inspired a major 1970 movie based on Johnson’s life titled The Great White Hope.[671x934]
